Patterns&Stitches 2026: New Music to a New Social Rhythm

The fourth edition of the festival opens with a double concert at Bioskop Balkan on Friday, 23 October at 5 p.m.

The fourth edition of the Patterns and Stitches festival retains the core concept that has made it distinctive: evenings dedicated to new music, featuring students of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade with an avant-garde and experimental program, a guest composer with his works, and premieres of works by domestic composers performed by the Ensemble for Different New Music (ADNM).

What is different this year is the rhythm. The social climate, a scheduling overlap with BEMUS and other factors have resulted in a schedule unlike any the festival has had before: it all begins with a double concert at Bioskop Balkan on Friday, 23 October at 5 p.m., featuring a performance by Faculty of Music students alongside works by the guest composer Leon Miodrag Lazarov Pashu, who passed away recently and who was one of the founders of ADNM. The programme dedicated to his work will continue the following day, on Saturday, in the hall of the Faculty of Music.

The ADNM concert featuring premieres of works by domestic composers will take place at a later date, within the next month. The organisers will announce the date timely.

The Patterns & Stitches festival has traditionally been supported by the Saša Marčeta Foundation. Even in this somewhat unusual form, its programme remains true to what brings audiences back year after year: music that calls for attentive listening and is unafraid to test boundaries.

“We hope audiences will understand the reasons behind this year’s schedule, which has been shaped by the practicalities of staging the festival. And who knows, perhaps this unusual arrangement will bring interesting and unexpected twists that would not have been possible in a conventional festival format,” says festival organiser Miša Savić.
