Participants:

Aleksandar Denić, artist
Ksenija Samardžija, art historian
Selman Trtovac, moderator

On the occasion of participating in the 60th International Art Exhibition in Venice in 2024, where Aleksandar Denić is representing Serbia with his solo exhibition Exposition Coloniale, as well as his induction into the Academy of Arts in Berlin, a discussion with the artist Aleksandar Denić was held at the “Menjačnica” Gallery of the Goethe-Institut.

The Exposition Coloniale exhibition in the Serbian Pavilion at the Venetian Giardini has been conceived as a complex installation uniquely resonating with the theme of the 60th Venice Biennale, Foreigners Everywhere / Stranieri Ovunque, curated by Adriano Pedrosa. Through this theme and Denić’s artistic response, space is opened for reflection on the socio-political circumstances that inspired this work.

The piece itself has sparked debates in the art scene. The questions and reception of this work, as well as Denić’s overall body of art, were the focus of the discussion at the Art Café in the “Menjačnica” Gallery of the Goethe-Institut. Special attention was also given to Denić’s induction into the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the significance of this event for his artistic career.
