Dialogues on Principles and the Social Contract in Art | Branko Milisković i Nemanja Mate Đorđević

At the initiative of media and performance artist Branko Milisković, in cooperation with the Saša Marchet Foundation, we are starting a series of talks that will be held in the historic building of the Balkan Cinema.

The third conversation was held between artists Nemanja Mate Djordjević and Branko Milisković. This dialogue followed the exchange of opinions between two independent artists, representatives of the same generation, who work in different fields and face similar problems and challenges. The discussion opened up important issues, such as the “contract” between artists and the society in which they live and create, as well as the obligations and responsibilities that each artist should assume. In addition, they considered artistic and life experiences from the position of middle-generation artists, the gallery and guild system, the phenomenon of ostracism, their perception towards the establishment, as well as the relevance of the artist if he does not belong to it. Also, the importance of art and artists in contemporary society was considered, as well as the possible ways in which artists can influence social changes. There was also talk about the importance of art and artists in modern society, whether and in what way artists can influence social changes.

This initiative aims to establish a public conversation as a platform for understanding the position of independent artists; through the use of dialogue in the research and recording of problems that arise from administrative, professional to the regulation of competition policy and equal rights. The Saša Marcheta Foundation strives to understand the position of independent artists with the intention of sharing their observations and experiences, especially those related to the existential consequences and possibilities of creative work in an environment that is not always directed towards understanding. This conversation is based on developing a context that will contribute to building respect for individuals who create and take responsibility for their independence in the name of the common good, as precious and exceptional witnesses and interpreters of the times in which we live. Bioskop Balkan – a space for contemporary art, needs to assume responsibility in finding solutions and overcoming current problems.
