Lust is a psychological force that creates an intense desire for something or someone. Lust can take various forms, such as sexual lust (libido), greed for money, or the desire for power.
In a black box theatre, surrounded by the audience, Serbian artist Branko Milisković performs a sexually explicit, erotically dreamlike situation in which the body touches, feels, and smears itself, supported by a hypnotic sound piece of the same title.
The viewer becomes a voyeur, drawn into a scene of seduction and pure pleasure in self-delusion. The smooth body, which radiates and mediates between consciousness and primitive desires, becomes a fetishized object — a symbol of sexual longing that stimulates itself, but at the same time a political body — a symbol of manipulation, greed, power, and crime.
LUST is one of Branko Milisković’s most radical performances, placing the New York audience — accustomed to Off-Broadway productions — in front of a serious challenge, questioning their relationship to the naked body, raw presence, their own prejudices and projections, collective shame, and taboo.
