Exhibition Staying Here With You organized in Swiss residence 2017 held performances, installations & video by Swiss artist Katja Schenker and the Serbian artist Ivan Grubanov. The exhibition explores such global issues as Identity, Corporeality, Duration, Territory and Nation to define a human need for Freedom and Individuality. Performances introduce zones of uncertainty and the need of a definition of space. Grubanov used Yugoslavian flags, placed on the floor, collecting by two cleaning lades and moving them with a broom from one to another side. Unwanted, flags that lost meaning and symbolism, are used as a base for colors and transpose on the canvas. These cycles from abandoned object to creative process reflect also a role of the artist in mediation between society and meanings.
Ivan Grubanov was born in Belgrade in 1976, where he graduated from the Department of Painting at the University of Arts. After that, he went for a two – year advanced training at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, then at Delfina Studios in London, Casa de Velazquez in Madrid and the University of Arts in Braunschweig.
